Music is awesome – don’t you agree??

Not that anyone will read this post – but I have to say how excited 2014 was for me.  So many concerts and so much awesome music.  I also have discovered some incredible music that was right in front of me but had never given it a second look.  The list goes on and on, but as you can see with my variety of music taste.  From blues (Joe Bonamassa) to rock (KISS, Def Lepard) to jazz (Hugh Laurie)… I had the unexpected pleasure of Nils Lofgren – and amazing to me I’ve had over 1,100 folks view my youtube (please check it out) video when he played at the Wild Horse Pass in Phoenix.  It was such an awesome relaxing evening and like I say – I had never heard of him, though he was right under my nose – in the Bruce Springstein band…  Simply beautiful music.

Oh yeah, then there is Boston – I never had the chance to see them in my youth and was so excited to finally have the chance to see them in concert.  It was imply amazing.  I will also mention Steve Miller – another truly awesome experience.  Some ‘might’ – ok ‘will’ say – they are all way to old to be out there on the road.  They are old – let’s face it Steve Miller is 71 – so, yeah he is old, but I close my eyes and he is 25 again.   Same with most bands I’ve seen, but you can’t ignore their history and their legend and their mark on the music world.  I know there are alwasy new musicians out there, but I feel truly honored to have lived during the era of music that I did… Kids now a days don’t have the variety of all different types of music and I’m so amazed and glad that even my grandkids know the words to most Styx songs, most Eagles songs, most Foo Fighters songs (heck I argue over how cute David Grohl is with my granddaughter, how cool is that?).

Don’t get me started on Foo Fighters – I’m so excited to see them in September here in Phoenix.  David Grohl is one of the key reason I have opened my eyes up.  Back in the Nirvana days – though I liked the band I was not goo-goo over them.  So, life went on and behind my back David Grohl took Foo Fighters to become one of the most awesome bands/musicians I have ever heard.  I can’t believe I missed out on some great music – back in the 90’s.  I was busy raising kids and working  – ugh…  Then came along Sound City and it literally changed my life!  It gave me the whole story on why Buckingham Nicks did not stay a duo and joined Fleetwood Mac.  I learned this all because David wanted to do a documentary on the demise of vinyl records.  For a man of his age – I would have expected this type of story and passion from an older guy.  But here this pure soul told a story that is probably one of my favorite stories ever told.  If you grew up in the 70’s like I did, you would really appreciate his work.  It does not surprise me that he received a few grammy’s for it and to be honest his new series – Sonic Highway is the same caliber of passion.  I wish more artists told the stories of their songs and what they were thinking and feeling at the time of them writing the songs.  I listen to the entire album and feel I was almost part of the process.  You simply must watch this series and then listen to the CD and I’m fairly sure you will agree.

I would also like to recommend the cable channel Palladia – it is really a very cool channel.  You can watch concerts, videos, documentaries – pretty much anything to do with music.    A few shows a recommend are:  Live from Daryl’s House – really cool series with different performers hangin out at his house (ranch type setting) and jamming.  I just checked out the site and apparently there are 68 episodes… Man I have some shows to catch up on…   Some of the one’s I’ve seen and liked were Darius Rucker, Gavin DeGraw, Train, Rob Thomas, John Rzeznik, the list goes on.

I would really love to hear what you have to say about my comments.  I’m dying to learn about new artists and encourage you to tell me your story.  There are so many awesome artists out there…
