To be honest – It has been forever since I read a book. But I was told about a book signing opportunity and what the heck – I might like the book. Well – the flip happened – I was out of town when he was here in Phoenix so I missed the signing and opportunity to mean him, but did order a signed copy on line. Long story short – it is a truly awesome book. You really see the human side of a music hero/king/figurehead person. Sure he has had things in life we only dream of, but when you hear how he obtained them you will have a whole new respect for the man that put on makeup, tights and 9 inch heels – took a childhood medical issue that he was ridiculed over and turned it into a personal victory. I’m sure money does not hurt, but the moral of the story seems he earned his own self esteem and pride in what he has accomplished in life.
We should all strive for living our dream. In a way – posting my thoughts, ideas and passion on this site is my dream. If I get 1 person off the couch and they go to a concert they normally would have said “I’ll pass” and by attending – on the drive home they think – man I’m glad I went, well that’s a success in my eyes.
In our nieve minds we always think rock stars were born with natural talent, came out of the womb playing music and it just comes so easy… I see now that is not true. I encourage you all to get the book, read it in all of its honesty – not that it changed my life, but surely confirmed my life in that we all have things we had to endure and live through as a kid and growing up and it is truly how you handle it – you can’t change it by changing others. Only through your own ‘mental’ process and fortitude – and what fortitude you have Paul.
Thank you Paul for sharing your story – which has and will help others (most of us) with things that hold us back in life. And I’m so glad you found your peace with a loveing family and self confidence!
